APPRECIATING THE POEMS BITE BY BITE
It is no surprised that In Love is the title of Marshay Mitchell’s poetry collection. She writes about love in many forms with wisdom and grace: the love of her parents, her appreciation of sensual pleasures and the natural world, and her own experiences in loving relationships. I have the sense that her words are dancing and playing with each other, delighting in the exploration of specific topics and life itself. When I got the book, I sat down and devoured it, skipping from poem to poem in delight. Now, I am appreciating the poems bite by bite, enjoying the images and physical sensations they evoke and connecting me to my own experiences of love. Marshay’s love of words and language, connection and communication shine through each page of this beautiful volume, which is a visual feast illustrated with photos and art. This poetic journal is a gift from her heart to ours.

In her poem, Just Say It, I found myself bursting at the seams with laughter because she takes love past pretty and into the crevices and cracks and wrinkles and funk and fuck ups that comes with being human.
